Through the East Frisian marshland the tour leads through the villages Hamswehrum, Groothusen, Manslagt and Pilsum. Once you arrive in Greetsiel, you will breathe history and seafaring romance in a unique environment of charming historic gabled houses, idyllic alleys and the dreamy harbour with its typical crab boats. The way back takes you along the outer dike for a while. Why not make a stop at the Pilsum Lighthouse! Made famous by comedian Otto Walkes. Schleuse Leysiel Salty, healthy sea air, a sky stretching to the horizon, grazing sheep – enjoy the endless expanse of the East Frisian North Sea coast on a quiet ride with a fresh breeze on the western outer dike. The route takes you through a sheep grazing area along the dike, past the Pilsum lighthouse towards Greetsiel. As the headwind on the dike can be very strong, an e-bike is recommended for this tour – even for sporty cyclists – which you can rent at our campsite. The destination – the Leysiel floodgate – is at the tip of the headland near the Ley Bay. The floodgate was completed together with the Leysiel flood barrier in 1991 and is the only way out of Greetsiel harbour into the North Sea. BOOK NOW CHECK AVAILABILITY BLOG Upleward ± 2 kilometres away The locality Upleward – lovingly called "Plewert" in Low German – is located on the west coast of East Frisia, 17 kilometers northwest of the seaport town of Emden. The village center of the "Warfendorf" Upleward is characterized by small, quaint single-family houses and large farms grouped around a gothic church. The coastal areas near the village are protected by dikes. Due to the tides, the village has no sand beach, but tourists can look forward to playing beach volleyball, enjoing the sunny day in the beach basket and building sandcastles at North Germany's unique beach behind the dike. Enjoy the charm of our small holiday homes near the North Sea – right behind the dike. Privacy and comfort are guaranteed here. Amenities: We offer first-class, fully furnished chalets from Bürstner with approximately 38 square meters of living space. Living area: Look forward to two separate bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen-living room with satellite TV, a lovely bathroom with shower, and a separate toilet. Outdoors: A terrace with garden furniture invites you to relax. Accessibility and service For wheelchair and walker users, we offer a special Tobs chalet. It features a ramp, extra-wide doors, a walk-in shower, and plenty of room to move around. Thanks to its larger size, this chalet is also ideal for guests with strollers. Extra service for you: Beds & Towels: The beds will be made upon your arrival, and towels will be provided. This way, you can travel light and start your holiday relaxed! Baby Set: We are happy to provide you with a complimentary baby set including a travel cot, changing mat, and highchair for the duration of your stay. Arrival, pets and rules Arrival : Arrival at the chalets is guaranteed from 3:00 PM. Departure: Please depart by 11:00 AM so that cleaning and mowing can take place. Pets: Please understand that pets are only allowed upon request, as we keep some of our accommodations pet-free for allergy sufferers. The following chalets are dog-friendly: M43, M50, M51, M52, and M53. Smoking: Naturally, all our accommodations are non-smoking. Then you can lock the door with the key as usual. Heating Our chalets are equipped with gas heating, which is usually preset by us. Do you want to adjust the heating yourself, please set the desired temperature (1-10) and press the control down until the heating ignites and runs. You can then see the flame through the small opening. Then adjust the fan to distribute the heat throughout the room. Gas stove Select the control knob for the desired hob and set it to the Max. Press the control to release the gas. You can now ignite the gas flame. Press and hold the knob for 10 seconds after ignition. The flame then burns safely. Dogs Your dogs are welcome in some of our chalets! At the reception you can get dog beds and food bowls, which we will gladly provide for the duration of your stay. Your four-legged companions should also feel at home with us!
