Over a short stretch of the outer dike, the route leads through the East Frisian marshland and the village Hamswehrum to Groothusen. The East Frisian "chieftain's castle" Osterburg with a view of the dike lies three metres above sea level.
The more than 530-year-old castle is one of the oldest secular buildings in East Frisia. During a guided tour you can learn about the historical peculiarity of the stone house and its past on the Wadden Sea.
