Region East Frisia

Our campsite is located near the village Upleward at the coast of East Frisia, directly behind the dike at the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea World Nature Heritage Site. The flat landscape is characterized by extensive meadows, fields and countless watercourses, such as channels. 18 so called "Warfendörfer" are peculiarities of this region. They were built to protect themselves against flooding on settlements before dikes existed. Because of ebb and flood the Wadden Sea is unique worldwide. The flood comes and goes twice a day and the domestic animals and plants have adapted to the conditions perfectly.

 

Get to know East Frisian culture. Visit the fishing village of Greetsiel or the seaport town of Emden. The beautiful surroundings invite you to go hiking and cycling – almost without road traffic.
