Juist, affectionately known as “Töwerland”, enchants with endless sandy beaches, natural dune landscapes and the soothing tranquillity of a car-free island. Explore the charming island village with its small stores and cozy cafés, stroll along the wide beach or relax on a horse-drawn carriage ride. Relaxation is the top priority here - perfect for anyone who wants to get away from it all. Juist also offers a relaxing experience for dog owners: dogs are welcome on many paths and on the beach. After an eventful day, the return journey takes you comfortably back to Greetsiel, where your North Sea vacation on the dyke continues.

Osterburg Over a short stretch of the outer dike, the route leads through the East Frisian marshland and the village Hamswehrum to Groothusen. The East Frisian "chieftain's castle" Osterburg with a view of the dike lies three metres above sea level. The more than 530-year-old castle is one of the oldest secular buildings in East Frisia. During a guided tour you can learn about the historical peculiarity of the stone house and its past on the Wadden Sea. Friends of homemade cuisine and creative cakes and tarts will get their money's worth in the charming bistro and café. Enjoy the enchanting castle garden with a view of the castle. The unique location offers you a variety of experiences: Wadden Sea: Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009, the Wadden Sea invites you to explore the mudflats at low tide. This is exciting for explorers of all ages! Please note: Only hike with a qualified guide. North Sea: At high tide, you can swim directly in the North Sea. Relaxation and active recreation The surrounding area invites you to enjoy active recreation: Activities: The flat landscape is ideal for hiking, inline skating, and cycling. Cycling routes: Attractive themed tours have been developed for cyclists, such as the "Cycling Tour to Pilsum," the "Shell Tour," the "Cycling Tour to the Leysiel Lock," and the "Greetsiel Circular Tour." You'll cycle on small side roads, mostly without steep inclines, and with almost no car traffic. Relaxation through North Sea air The salty, fresh North Sea air is also very good for your health. Pilsum Our short bike tour takes you through the municipality of Krummhörn and some of its 18 typical villages. Hamswehrum, Groothusen, Manslagt and the destination Pilsum were built as villages on a hill for protection against storm floods. The village of Pilsum, with its towering church and the mighty crossing tower, has been considered one of the most beautiful villages in the municipality of Krummhörn since the village renewal in the mid-1980s. Winding alleys, lovingly renovated rural workers' houses and gulf farms (typical East Frisian farmhouses) and the magnificent church, which is classified as a national monument, give the village its unmistakable charm. A good infrastructure and over 1200 years of city history invite you to linger. The city is easily accessible by bicycle. Emden offers a comprehensive cultural program and a wide range of events for explorers. In the East Frisian country museum, culture enthusiasts can get their money's worth and the Emden harbor can be explored with a boat trip. From here you can also take a ferry to Holland. As the funniest Ostfriesland hint we recommend a museum where you can laugh: "Dat Otto Huus" shows the career of the comedian Otto Waalkes from Emden.
