Our short bike tour takes you through the municipality of Krummhörn and some of its 18 typical villages. Hamswehrum, Groothusen, Manslagt and the destination Pilsum were built as villages on a hill for protection against storm floods.
The village of Pilsum, with its towering church and the mighty crossing tower, has been considered one of the most beautiful villages in the municipality of Krummhörn since the village renewal in the mid-1980s.
Winding alleys, lovingly renovated rural workers' houses and gulf farms (typical East Frisian farmhouses) and the magnificent church, which is classified as a national monument, give the village its unmistakable charm.
